Is it no wonder that 3 of the 10 country stars you highlighted are from Oklahoma? Oklahoma has been a bed of "hot-licks" for nearly a century. Our state boasts many excellent guitarists as good and exceeding the ability of Vince Gill. But a guitarist and a vocalist alone cannot make it in Country Music. A good singer needs a good song, and Oklahoma has been blessed with many great songwriters who supply the country stars with their songs. Joe Diffie, from Velma, Oklahoma, is another Country star from Oklahoma topping the charts who writes most of his own stuff; and Gill, who hales from Oklahoma City, is not only a guitarist and vocalist but also an exceptional songwriter.

Oklahomans also make their presence known in the music's broadcast business with Gaylord Entertainment Co., with Oklahoma roots, owning Opryland, Hee Haw, and now, according to your article, will be moving into the full time C.& W. video business. Garth just bought a bunch of land not far from Edmond, so the growth of Country Music is paying Oklahoma dividends as we watch our neighbors pick up more and more awards. Thanks, TIME; it's about time - now if I can just get affordable cable service out here ... .
