-----Click on the pictures below. These are just small pictures that I have reduced from the bigger pictures. These pictures will take you to the great big pictures, and they will be large. You can burn them on a disk or save them on a diskette. I am not sure about the diskettes, but I do believe that any place with a KIOSK will be able to make real pictures out of these. They will make great 8 by 10's or smaller. If you use a Windows computer, simply click on each picture, wait until it loads and you have the full picture, then right click your mouse and "save as" to your hard drive. Macintosh users simply click, let it load, and then click-hold the picture and it will give you a choice of downloading the picture to your hard drive.
-----CONGRATULATIONS LADY WARRIORS!! TWO TEAMS in the BIG HOUSE, probably one of the few times in the history of Oklahoma. Since I am not a sports genius, I'll let someone else check the stats. The Clinton girls were and have always been a class act. In fact, Clinton's entire sports program is probably the top of their class. Anadarko IS the best team to represent our Area, Region and District.
----- CONGRATULATIONS WARRIORS MENS' BASKETBALL TEAM!! I must say that Piedmont is one of the classiest teams we have played this year. It is just too bad that they did not bring their Piedmont Mascot. There would have been no problems if the Piedmont Mascot was there; the only thing that would have happened would have been a lot of jeering from our SIXTH MAN crew. Read below to see who they are. We were beyond impressed with Piedmont's coach, team, and crowd, and ... to their BIG MAN, #24, think Oklahoma University. This man was awesome underneath the basket and on the three point line. What can I say, practice your free throws! :) I would not be surprised if Anadarko Warriors will meet Piedmont again. But, ... you must remember, that, ... Doug Schumpert experienced your team once, so don't expect him to not have altered his inside play for your #24. We are talking layups, 3 point shots, and jump shots that he will only be able to slap down, when the ball is on the way down. And, ... remember, ... Schumpert makes his first string dead aim at the free throw. Our other man that played a lot of time is only a freshman, so give him 3 more years, and he will not be missing free-shots. The classiest part of the game was when Piedmont's coach sent in his second string with a minute and 30 seconds to go. He could have elongated the game another 20 minutes playing the free shot thing and lost by many more points, but he was classy, classy. THANKS PIEDMONT FOR A GREAT GAME AND A GREAT CROWD.
----- IIt is said that coach Doug Schumpert is the best men's basketball coach in the state. In fact, his uncle called him the "Bobby Knight" of Oklahoma. I can assure you, though, that he is probably both, minus Knight's, often out-of-control temper, and he proved it Satuday night by beating for the second time the awesome, Piedmont Wildcats, with their magnificent center, #24, Mica Miles, listed as 6" 8", but plays more like 6" 9 or 10. But before I go into a bit of detail about my thoughts on Schumpert's genuis, I've got to mention the Anadarko Lady Warriors. Alana Clift is probably the most durable low-post player in the state. How tough is she? Her beauty is not skin deep; her biggest thrill was getting a black eye in one game!
----- ICassie Williams is an All-Stater who was a super star at the 3 pointers, inside play, and free-throws. Jessica Kodaseet played most of the season without the ability of lateral play, but she still played. Jessica is a consumate ball handler, 3 pointer, free-thrower, and any other aspect of the game. Katie Cantrell grew over-night into one of the most solid players on the team. Funny, when she was a sophomore, Katie, Tom Cantrell's daughter, often played "out-of-control." If you expected the same this year, you were dead wrong. This gal's 3 pointers were important as was her free throws, but where she excelled was her unmitting, harassment and defensive prowess against other teams. Watch for Katie to be an All Stater next year.
----- IAlyssa Miller, senior, is an All-State softball player, but by the end of the season, she added some of the most impressive, off-the-bench talent possible. Alyssa is so strong that she intimidates other players. Defense was her forte, and believe me, Miller had some first-class, playing time. She would have counted herself so much more successful if she could have bought some of her many foul shots, but, ... Alyssa, who cares, you scared the other teams to death with your intensity.
----- ISeniors Amanda McCarthy and Jenna Humble will be missed big time. Amanda was an important part of the team all season, and Jenna spent a lot of time on the bench the first of the season. There were times that Jenna could have shot but she passed off. But, during the trip to the big house, Jenna's passing was invaluable. I must apologize to Jenna, big time, because my little Fuji FinePix 1400 was being held together by box tape by the end of the season, and Jenna, ... when you made your only shot down low, I clicked my camera and nothing. The darn contacts on the battery holder failed. But, Jenna, I have some great pictures of you.
Lady Warriors (28-3?): #10 Haley Williams, #12 Tommi Komalty, #15 Tao Tiger, #20 Katie Birch (2 more years!), #21 Cassie Williams*, #22 Alyssa Miller*, #23 Keri Obe, #24 Jessica Kodaseet*, #25 Katie Cantrell, #30 Rachelle Tosee, #31 Alana Clift*, #34 Amanda McCarthy*, #43 Jenna Humble*, #55 Allison Cross (*Seniors) See if you can spot them!!
----- Brett Sanders' Anadarko Lady Warriors had a stellar year. Sanders', the counselor at Sunset Elementary, is a Schumpler protege, and if you can find a better girls' coach in Oklahoma, email me. Every year, a Sanders' team reaches the playoffs. Last year they brought home the 2nd Trophy which is displayed in Warrior Fieldhouse. Ranked number 1 all year long, they lost out to a very good Oologah team in semi-finals. Oologah was able to get Anadarko in early foul trouble and free-shot their way to a victory by hitting something like 30 out 34 shots. The Lady Warriors could do nothing but watch, and Sanders accepted the obvious with nothing but class.
----- The Oologah team that played the Lady Warriors didn't show up the next day against Prairie View. The Lady Warriors could have beaten either one of those teams that day, but it wasn't to be. Congratulatons Lady Warriors for a great year!
----- "Who are you guys pulling for?" I asked the two guys standing beside me Friday night?"
----- "Well, actually, we drove down from Tulsa just two watch Coach Doug Schumpert do his thing. He is an incredible coach."
----- Beating the Piedmont Wildcats in Area, convinced me that we would see this team again. With a 6 foot 8 inch center, the Wildcats was convincing and their coach, Butch Burton, is a class act. In order to get back to the championship, the Wildcats went through the losers bracket, no easy feat. But they did it.
----- The Warriors beat an outstanding Miami team which had a 6" 8' post man as well as another tree. The Sante Fe High School gym is nice, but isn't large enough to accomodate Anadarko's fans. This was the only game where I didn't even try to take pictures. It started at 9:30 PM, and I would have had to stand the entire time behind the goals and my back wasn't in for that, so I sat on my lawn chair, looking out of the upper glass. Believe me, Miami was a challenge, and Schumpert's team was on a mission. The 4 best teams in the state, in 4A, were, Anadarko Warriors, Jay, Miami, and Piedmont. Jay came in as the top seed. The Warriors were a sleeper to everyone but the Warriors fans, Schumpert, and the team.
----- The first quarter looked like the Warriors were going to run away with it, but Piedmont Wildcats didn't come in second for a reason. I actually expected that Anadarko would hold Miles to even lower pointage this time, and Schumpert's team gave miles a polecat this night. But after soundly beating a good Eufaula team, the Warriors were ready for the Wildcats to come back from an 18 and 2 deficit.
-----Schumpert is a genius at shuffling his players in and out at the right time. 3 early fouls took Miles out of the game most of the first half. The above picture is of Schumpert before the game with Piedmont's great coach, Butch Barton, coming into the game with a 25-5 record, 25-4 without meeting Anadarko.
----- "Did the coach practice the team this morning and if so, where," I asked one of the assistants.
----- "OCU."
----- "Did he practice for the big man in the center?" The coach smiled, and it turned out that the 6.8 center was a non-factor in the game. Anadarko shut him down.
--- An interesting side note, is that the Riverside Indians drew Piedmont at Clinton. During a break in the game, the Piedmont Wildcat made a poor decision to dance in front of the Indians' cheerleaders. A good student among the many followers made a poor choice of coming out of the stands and tackling the Wildcat, knocking his head off. Thus, ... when Anadarko played Piedmont in Lawton, the Wildcats thought it was a wise idea, not to bring their mascot. It was a mistake, though, because none of Anadarko's students and followers would have done anything more than give the mascot a verbal hard time. In fact, the Sixth Man was disappointed and was heard chanting, "Where's your mascot?"
-----If there is a Hollis Price on Anadarko's team, it would be Damon Nimsey, seen here being awarded his State Champion Medallion presented by Superintendent, Tom Cantrell. As the point guard most of the time, Nimsey was dead center on threes and only misses free shots if the "goal is crooked!" Cameron Yeahquo is listed at 6" 6', but I think that is for psychology for other teams. Yeahquo is a 3 point specialist and a free throw specialist, but yet will get in the center with guys 5 inches taller than him and play them one-on-one. Yeahquo won the outstanding player of the tournament. Congratulations, Cameron!! Jeremy Hunter was absolutely indefatigable and consistent in his outstanding play as was Jeff Roberts. I mean, these guys were down there in the trees and came down with the balls and the shots. 9th grader Jeremy Barton, who is the first and only player to dunk a ball in Warrior Fieldhouse during a game, was the miracle man that jelled the team through the tournament and ultimately the State Championship. Pictured, again, is Coach Schumpler with the winning plaque and ball. So, ... here they are.
Anadarko Warriors (27-3) #3 Jeremy Barton, #4 Derrick Lorentz, #10 Emphraim Kelly, #11 Adam Parker*, #14 Ryan Coble, #15 Jacob Sahmaunt, #20 Dustin Davilla, #22 Aaron Archilta, #23 Jordan Ward, #24 Lucas Noland, #25 Bobby Perry*, #30 Andy Roundface, #32 Cameron Yeahquo*, and #33 Jeremy Hunter*, Jeff Roberts*. Managers: John Jordan, Jeff Quoetone, Patrick Mahseet. Coaches besides Schumpert, Larry Nunn and Clarence Hagg. (*Seniors)
